I have been a portfolio manager at South Suez Capital, the largest African fund of private equity funds for the past 7 years ($1bn AUM and close to 200 portfolio companies in the portfolio): https://www.southsuez.com/
At South Suez Capital, I have been investing in the past 7 years in Africa only, gaining exposure to funds, secondaries and direct investments in various sectors. On the back of my performance, track record and profile, I have been promoted to Principal in Q1 2020.
In this context, I have a deep understanding and knowledge of the African private equity market and the dynamics of managers and the environment.
From an investors' perspective, I have also dealt with pension funds and other types of investors (including family offices, DFIs and endowments) not only in Africa but also in Europe, US and Asia.
In addition, I have built my experience as an angel investor since 2019, as a director of Dazzle Angels, the first SA female angel fund (http://www.dazzleangels.com/#overview), only investing in women-led tech businesses, acting as an IC member and also responsible for origination and monitoring.
This ensures my ability to source, assess, price, structure and monitor early stage investments in South Africa.
As a guest lecturer in entrepreneurship at the African Leadership Academy (https://www.africanleadershipacademy.org/), I also have access to numerous African entrepreneurs (mainly West and East Africa). I am working on a more regular basis with some of them, through advisory and coaching sessions (covering financial, operational, strategic, fundraising and legal topics).
This has and continues to provide me with additional insight and knowledge regarding trends and dynamics in the early stage space in Africa.
I am currently based in Cape Town and travel extensively on the Continent (including West Francophone Africa and North Africa). I have also made numerous trips to Cameroon and Democratic Republic of Congo – my home country.
I have also been appointed as a member of PE WIN Africa (https://pewin.org/who-we-are/) and the Boardroom Africa (https://theboardroomafrica.com/) – through these platforms, I have been sharing my insights as a LP to African managers on a regular basis and continue to build my network in both the private equity industry but also the corporate and VC spaces.
Within the Boardroom Africa, I have been selected as one out of 10 recipients of the Wendy Luhabe 1-year mentorship programme.
Finally, I have been active in the CT start-ups scene in the past 3 years, with regular interactions with Seedstars, Akro Capital, Silicon Cape, Startup Grind among others. I have also been invited to AESIS summit for the past 2 years, focusing on building and expanding my angels investors network in both the Anglophone and the Francophone African worlds.
